Instrument Passport in the Shop
-
Hello. I am working on Instrument Passport. One of the things I find handy is how I can use it in my shop.
-
I have a violin here. It looks like one I've worked on before — one that I made — and I want to go ahead and scan it using Instrument Passport.
I’m logged in with my account (Will Howery) on my laptop, and I also have the app on Android. It works the same on Android or iPhone.
-
The NFC tag is right underneath the fingerboard. When I scan it, the instrument information pops up on my laptop. There’s a lot of data involved, and editing it is much easier on the laptop than on a phone.
-
On the My Instruments page, I click Scan Instrument. I hold the phone next to the tag — it finds it — and the instrument appears on both my phone and laptop. This particular one is instrument number 25, a violin I made. If I want to display it, I just hit “Yes,” and there it is.
-
This is really helpful when working with customers. They may bring in an instrument that I worked on six months or a year earlier. I can scan it and instantly see the history. Even if I don’t have access to the private data, the public-only scan data still comes up on my laptop.
-
It’s also very handy for my rental instruments. When kids come in excited about renting, I can scan the instrument and immediately access all the rental details and any activities or work I’ve done on it.
-
Instrument Passport gives me quick access to past work and records — all from my Android or iPhone.
